If you run ads through Facebook Ads Manager, you may not realize that opting into the Audience Network<\/a> means that your ads could be running on sites that aren’t in line with your brand\u2019s values\u2014eg. Breitbart.<\/p>\n

The simplest fix is to opt out of third-party sites by selecting \u201cEdit Placements\u201d in the ad set and then deselecting \u201cAudience Network.\u201d However, if you don\u2019t want to miss out on the Audience Network\u2019s access to sites like BuzzFeed, HuffPost, and CNN, you can upload a \u201cBlock List\u201d that will prevent ads from running on specific sites.<\/p>\n

If you prefer the latter option, the actual Audience Network list is quite lengthy, so we recommend finding out where your ads HAVE run. To see that info, in your business settings, navigate to \u279e\u00a0Brand Safety<\/u>\u00a0\u279e Block Lists<\/u>\u00a0\u279e Manage<\/u> \u279e See Where Ads Have Appeared<\/u>.<\/p>\n

Once you download those lists, we suggest focusing on the channels with the most impressions and adding the no-gos to your\u00a0Block List<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ready to start engaging influencers? Here’s the\u00a0plan.<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Redefine “Influencers”<\/strong>
\nInstead of thinking about people as\u00a0“influencers,” we suggest viewing them as\u00a0potential “friends” of your brand.\u00a0You want to build\u00a0long-term relationships, not a list of one-and-dones.<\/p>\n

2. Find Friends with Influence<\/strong>
\nNext, scout\u00a0for your new friends. Look for a variety of people who have different\u00a0spheres of influence.\u00a0Some of them may have already\u00a0tagged\u00a0your brand in social media or reached out via email. Visit those archives!<\/p>\n

3. Rank Character\u00a0<\/strong>
\nLook for people who share values with your brand, then\u00a0assess and rank\u00a0their worth. We like letter grades: A+, A, B, C. What to consider: engagement, followers, frequency, experience.<\/p>\n

4. Make Contact\u00a0<\/strong>
\nContact your\u00a0potential new friends with\u00a0an offer, which can be tailored\u00a0to each group:\u00a0C = free product\/service;\u00a0B = C + repost; A =\u00a0B + C + payment;\u00a0A+ = A + B + C + an experience (pictured).<\/p>\n

5. Build a\u00a0CRM<\/strong>
\nOnce you have your first group of influencers on board, confirm your agreements (contracts are always wise)\u00a0and then load\u00a0everyone’s info\u2014social handles, agreement terms, signed docs, etc.\u2014into a CRM tool like\u00a0Capsule<\/a>.<\/p>\n

6. Review. Revise. Repeat.<\/strong>
